Environment - our commitment to monitoring and reducing our environmental footprint.

We are aware that we owe it to our customers, suppliers and staff to be a responsible organisation, and look after the environment in which we operate. It is important for a firm such as ours, which does not have a major environmental footprint, to structure its activities in a manner proportionate to the nature of our business.

The Group has forged links with Cass Business School, part of City of London University London. One of Cass's MBA students undertook an internship within the Group, to work on a real-life business project focusing on environmental reporting. The Group subsequently launched an Environmental and Sustainability Statement and 'Environmental Tracker' for its core sites, measuring energy consumption, print statistics and a variety of recycling data.

A CR facility named 'The Link' was launched at the Wythall site, providing information to staff and visitors on the Group's CR programme. The facility promotes the 3R's - Reduce, Re-use and Recycle, and includes a book swap facility, and various recycling options. This has proved very popular and the proceeds actively support local charitable fundraising.

The Group is committed to sourcing paper from sustainable, managed forests. This is paper that has been accredited Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification ('PEFC'), and Forest Stewardship Council ('FSC'). The Group has also reduced the number of suppliers in this area, which brings cost-savings and environmental benefits - simplifying the supply chain, and reducing the quantity of invoices and deliveries.

The Group's IT system has gone through a period of transition and has moved to a new service provider. Newly installed printers are eco-friendly, consume less energy, and produce lower CO2 emissions. Print statistics are being tracked, and employees are reminded of the environmental impact of printing.

Every October, we raise awareness of the Environment. We previously have held an Environmental Awareness Event, to highlight the 3 R's – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. We gave staff the opportunity to make suggestions on how they believe we can further protect the environment in which we live and work.To read more about this Event, and the funds raised for the Woodland Trust, please view our media centre release.

At our Wythall site, we planted a 14ft English Oak (Quercus Robur), which has become the symbol of our first Environmental Awareness Event. The Oak has long been synonymous with strength, size and longevity and will remind us of our responsibility to the environment.
