Wythall Walking Friends'Wythall Walking Friends' is a new walking group designed to help our older population integrate more within their community, helping them to forge new friendships, build extra exercise into their daily routine, and learn about any historical or natural points of interest along the way.

Phoenix Group has partnered with Living Streets charity to create a series of short led-walks within the Wythall area, targeted specifically at individuals aged 65+ years. A population that may not be very active, and are often living alone or feeling isolated. This is the second year the Group has partnered with the charity, last year focusing on walks for their staff population, whereas this year they are looking to work more with the local community.

The ‘Wythall Walking Friends’ pilot will combine many elements of our Corporate Responsibility strategy, including mental and physical wellbeing.

The UK has an ageing population with more than 10.8 million people aged over 65, a staggering 3.8 million of these currently live alone. One million older people often feel lonely and 17% see their family, friends or neighbours less than once a week.

The Walks will be starting in Wythall in May 2018, in conjunction with National Walking Month.
